After going through massive paraphernalia...never thought I would, I have decided to get the Nikon D80 for my trip to Japan in November. I am excited because I can finally deal with the variations in climatic conditions with something more versatile than my Pro 1. The scenes in Autumn will be worth the investment I heard be it in Tokyo, Osaka or Kyoto.

I am looking forward to the 11-area AF system to keep my pictures focused - light balanced. Excellent!! The only downside is that I might not be able to capture sports pictures effectively since it has a slower than usual top shutter speed but for the price, it should be fine. At this stage, spending on a high end camera is out of the question i.e. Nikon D200 or D2X. It also has good noise reduction at higher ISO 800. Maybe one day when I am fully retired and take photography as a real hobby then that might change. A Hasselblad?
There will be more to spend though in terms of memory. I have a compact flash for my Pro1 (2GB & 4GB) and will have to buy extra SDHC cards for the Nikon since it can now take more that 2GB. Apart from that I'm thinking of getting a speedlite and a vertical grip. That is optional based on the budget...I'd rather have extra lens with VR (Vibration Reduction).
Lets see how it goes...if the D200 is not much more, that is definitely a better option.

That camera is intense! I can't wait to see the pictures from Japan.
I know...I'm all excited. I can't believe it myself - I think I am excited because Japan is such a country of contradiction and I suppose because I am a little conservative, this trip will be an eye-opener.
Dual XD5250 In-Dash CD/CD-RW Car Stereo Receiver with Remote and Front Panel USB Charging Port and Aux Input 41% Save !! Coby CXCD251RED Portable CD Player with AM/FM Radio, Red Review. My parents bought the CD-ROMs for my daughter on Amazon.com. other than the brialliant P3 i'm looking for a cheap-ish MP3 player that has FM radio that sounds good, has presets station ( and remembers it!), manual & auto scan or better with DAB (digital radio) capability.
